Getting your above-ground pool ready for summer

A little preparation goes a long way. Start the season with a careful check of your liner, connections, and everyday pool essentials.

Start with a walk around the pool

Before opening your pool, check the wall, top rail, and surrounding area for visible damage. Look for loose hardware, uneven supports, or signs of leaks. If you notice structural damage, have a qualified pool professional assess it before filling or using the pool.

Give your liner some attention

Look for tears, unusual wrinkles, and sections that have pulled away from the top edge. Check the bead receiver or coping that holds your liner in place. Cracked or missing pieces should be addressed using parts compatible with your pool and liner, following the manufacturer's instructions.

Check hoses and connections

Inspect hoses for cracks, stiffness, and wear around connection points. Make sure clamps are appropriately sized and secure without being overtightened. Follow your equipment manufacturer's guidance for sealing threaded connections; not every connection needs thread tape.

Open at your own pool's pace

Remove debris from your cover before taking it off, then clean and store it as directed by its manufacturer. Follow your pool and equipment manuals for water level, filtration startup, and water testing. With the basics checked, you can focus on a summer of enjoying your pool.
